Singida Regional Hospital is located in central Tanzania. Tanzania is a beautiful country, which lives up to the romantic notion of open savannas and umbrella trees surrounded by magnificent mountains. Tanzania is home to many game parks where visitors can see African wildlife in their natural habitat. Game parks in Tanzania have more elephants per square mile than anywhere else on earth. The only thing more awesome than Tanzania's wild life is the Tanzanian people, who are rich in heritage and welcome the chance to share it with others.
SRH is a 250 bed hospital that provides medical care in every discipline. The hospital is government owned and is staffed by physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, and aides. Yet the hospital remains understaffed and ill-equipped by American standards. Outreach Africa has been a great help to this particular hospital and has been able to provide needed equipment as well as a yearly medical team. SRH asked to partner with MMWW for training in emergency medicine and emergency procedures, and for assistance in other medical specialties.
Although Tanzania is a peaceful country with a sound government, the poverty level remains remarkably high. Urban areas are densely populated yet rural areas are so spread out that children walk miles to school and no access to medical care. MMWW is partnering with SRH and Outreach Africa to support local and regional hospitals, and provide supplies and education. MMWW will also travel to remote areas with SRH and Outreach Africa staff to host open air clinics for populations that do not have access to a hospital or clinic and provide reoccurring medical clinics to Tanzania's street children.
